Port Canaveral is about 45 miles (72 km) from Orlando International Airport (MCO). The drive takes 55 to 75 minutes on the SR 528 Beachline toll road. From Disney World or Universal-area hotels it is about 55 to 75 miles and 65 to 95 minutes. Leave enough time to arrive at the start of your cruise line's boarding window.

“How far is the port?” sounds like a map question, but on cruise day it is really a timing question. The ship will not wait, and the Beachline can be slow on a Saturday morning when several ships turn around at once. Here are the real numbers and a simple timeline you can copy.
Distance and drive time at a glance
| From | Distance to Port Canaveral | Typical drive | SPL private SUV |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orlando International Airport (MCO) | ~45 mi / 72 km | 55–75 min | $169 flat |
| Walt Disney World resorts | ~65–75 mi / 105–120 km | 75–95 min | $219 flat |
| Universal / International Drive | ~55–65 mi / 89–105 km | 65–85 min | $219 flat |
Drive times are approximate and vary with traffic. All SPL rates include tolls; gratuity is optional.
Which road do you take?
From MCO the route is almost a straight line east on the SR 528 Beachline Expressway to the port. It is a toll road. Rental cars usually bill tolls through a daily program, which is one more cost to think about. In a private car the tolls are simply part of the flat rate. From Disney or Universal you first take I-4 or SR 417 and then join the Beachline, which is why the hotel trip takes longer.

Things that slow you down
- Weekend turnover days. Several ships can embark on the same morning, and traffic at the terminal entrances backs up.
- Waiting for others. Buses and shared shuttles leave when they fill, not when you are ready.
- Luggage that doesn’t fit. A family of five with week-long bags will not fit in a standard rideshare car. See our luggage guide.
- The wrong terminal. Port Canaveral has several cruise terminals; your documents say which one. Tell us when you book.
“Had a large and comfortable vehicle with a car seat for our little one, which is very rare. Even had a tablet for the kids. He communicated the day before to confirm.”— Amanda T., Google review · Port Canaveral cruise
