Plan on leaving the cruise terminal between about 8:00 and 10:00 AM, then 55 to 75 minutes of driving to Orlando airport (MCO). For a domestic flight, book a departure after about 12:30 PM; for an international flight, after about 1:30 PM. A private car that waits for you is faster than a cruise line bus that leaves on a schedule.

Embarkation day gets all the attention, but disembarkation morning is where we see travelers get nervous. Thousands of passengers leave the ship in a few hours, and everybody wants to get to the airport at the same time. A little planning makes it easy.
How disembarkation works
Ships usually dock at Port Canaveral very early. Passengers then leave in groups between roughly 7:00 and 9:30 AM. If you put your luggage outside your cabin the night before, you will collect it in the terminal and then clear U.S. Customs. If you choose self-assist (carrying all your own bags), you can usually be among the first off.
Realistically, most families reach the curb between 8:00 and 10:00 AM.
What flight time is safe?
| Your situation | Earliest flight we recommend |
|---|---|
| Self-assist, domestic flight | About 11:30 AM–12:00 PM |
| Luggage tags, domestic flight | About 12:30 PM or later |
| Any international flight | About 1:30 PM or later |
| Traveling with small kids, wheelchair or large group | Add an extra hour |
These are practical rules from our trips, not airline policy. Airlines generally recommend arriving 2 hours before domestic and 3 hours before international flights.

Bus, rideshare or private car?
Cruise line bus
Convenient if you booked it with the cruise, but it leaves when it is full or on a schedule, and you pay per person. If your group gets off late, you wait for the next one.
Uber or Lyft
Possible, but on disembarkation mornings demand spikes at the terminals and pickup areas get crowded. Finding a car big enough for a family and a week of luggage can take time.
Private car
Your chauffeur is assigned before you sail. You message when you’re off the ship, the SUV is waiting, and you go straight to MCO. One price for the vehicle, tolls included.
Private SUV, up to 6 passengers with room for cruise luggage. Tolls included.
- Tolls included, gratuity optional
- Flight tracking, free wait for delays
- Free child seats
- Free cancellation up to 24h
Have a late flight? Use the day
If your flight is in the evening, you don’t have to sit in the airport for eight hours. Many of our clients book a hotel day room, visit Cocoa Beach for lunch, or go back to Orlando for one more afternoon. Book the transfer with the destination you want; prices for other stops show at booking or we quote them for you.
“Very professional driver that got my family and all our luggage to the airport in a timely and comfortable manner. He even had videos playing for the kids!”— Ray C., Google review · Airport transfer
Checklist for disembarkation morning
- Keep passports, medications and phone chargers in your carry-on, not in the bags you put outside the cabin.
- Save your chauffeur’s contact before you sail; your phone may not have service at sea.
- Know your terminal number. It is in your cruise documents.
- Print or screenshot your boarding passes the night before.
Booking the way to the ship too? Start with Orlando airport to Port Canaveral, and add the return to the same reservation for 10% off.
